Social Responsibility at the Core of Our Business Philosophy
The notion of social responsibility is implicit
in the way Boston Financial chooses to conduct
business.
Social responsibility defines our relationship
with our community. We want to be exemplary corporate
citizens because it is the right thing to do,
and because Boston Financial associates value
it. Supporting and investing in our associates’
work and non-work communities is acting in a socially
responsible manner as well as a responsible corporate
manner.
Social responsibility is embedded in our corporate
strategy of "Cycle
of Success", which links the achievement
of our financial objectives to customer satisfaction,
which in turn depends upon operational excellence,
and which itself is driven by the satisfaction
of our associates. Delivering operational excellence
to our clients, for example, requires first that
our associates are in the right job, that they
are well trained and that they are committed to
Boston Financial. This means that our associates
believe in our corporate values and practices,
and conversely, that Boston Financial is committed
to supporting our associates in their work, communities
and families.
Boston Financial applies this notion and understanding
of social responsibility in many arenas:
- Charitable Partnerships We
maintain charitable giving campaigns with a
number of community organizations.
- Employee Volunteerism We
encourage and provide opportunities for our
associates to work in their communities and
to contribute to charities of their own choice.
- Workplace Setting We strive
to create a work environment that recognizes
and supports the importance of each individual.
We completed significant improvements to our
physical facilities in 2003, installing ergonomic
workstations.
- Diversity Boston Financial
is committed to recruiting and promoting a diverse
workforce. Currently, women hold a significant
percent of our managerial, professional-level,
technical, and office and clerical positions.
We value the ethnic representation throughout
our organization, which is also a respectable
percent of our population. As part of our corporate
recruitment and training practices, Boston Financial
works closely with a number of community-based
organizations that support and encourage diversity
and job training.
- Recycling Boston Financial's
recycling program incorporates the recycling
of computer equipment, paper and printing toner
cartridges. We donate net proceeds from our
recycling efforts to local non-profit organizations.
We have reduced the amount of paper we use for
output by developing and implementing electronic
alternatives to daily confirms, dealer statements
and investor quarterlies. We substitute environmentally
safe products such as recycled paper and non-toxic
inks wherever possible. We have also sought
to reduce the usage of paper applications and
resumes from prospective applicants. All applicants
are encouraged to submit their cover letters
and resumes online via the Internet.
